“But sometimes you have to kill a dream to escape a nightmare.”

An extremely rich family, the Lamour’s, control the world’s supply of a magical drug called levic that is only accessible to the wealthy. After Nora loses her father, being unable to afford levic medical treatment, her brother Hayden collapses in the subway, leaving her unsure as to how she’s going to provide for herself and help Hayden. Mysteriously, Nora ends up winning the lottery to attend the Dream Gala, a magical event hosted by the Lamour’s. Around the same time, a scandal erupts when a love letter written by Remy Lamour ends up leaked in the news. She ends up striking a deal with the Lamour brothers, Henri and Remy, agreeing to attend and pretend to be in love with Remy to distract from his letter in exchange for their help with her brother and a spot in the Dream Engineering program. She ends up developing feelings for Remy and the successful actor, Dom, who has a complicated relationship with Remy. However, Nora quickly becomes suspicious of the Lamour’s and must uncover the truth to save her new friends and brother.

This Dream Will Devour Us is an outstanding debut novel that completely captivated me. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time I was reading it, quickly turning the pages wanting to uncover all the secrets. I found Nora to be a relatable and inspiring main character because she has such strong aspirations and desires for her life, and is willing to do whatever it takes to achieve them. She is clever and cares deeply for her friends and family, making her a perfect character to root for. This book also contains a love triangle that is delightfully complicated. The two love interests, Remy and Dom, have tension not only between each other but also with Nora, making this a perfect love triangle and a must-read for any fans of that trope. There were also so many beautiful scenes in the book. For one of the spectacles orchestrated by Henri’s Dream Engineers, the paintings in the Met come alive, allowing guests to be immersed in them. Then for the Paris spectacle, creatures of gold dust come alive and move about the city. These scenes were so dazzling and unique, making me wish I was a part of this world to see such magical feats for myself. I also enjoyed the commentary this book made about class inequality through the use and accessibility of levic and how it directly affected Nora. This book was all at once clever, magical, mysterious, and addicting.

This Dream Will Devour Us releases on April 28th, 2026.
