“Don’t forget. We’re family.”

Trigger warnings: massacre of young children; constant mentions of blood; violence

About the author: Takaya Kagami is a Japanese light novel writer. Some of his major works include The Legend of the Legendary Heroes, A Dark Rabbit Has Seven Lives and Seraph of the End, which have all been adapted into anime shows. Kagami’s first chapter of Seraph of the End had four different versions and fifteen different drafts created.

Seraph of the End is a continuing 14 volume series taking place after a virus wipes out most of humanity, giving way to the reign of vampires. After tragically losing his orphaned family to a vampire, Yuichiro “Yu” Hyakuya vows to avenge their deaths by slaying all vampires. To do so, he must first join the vampire extermination unit of the Japanese Imperial Army. Along the way, Yu makes new friends—some more trustworthy than others—and discovers that his best friend, Mikaela Hyakuya, may not be dead after all. This series explores the wickedness of humanity and how far some are willing to go to “save” mankind, as well as the importance of family.
