About the Author: “Kristin Dwyer is the author of SOME MISTAKES WERE MADE, THE ATLAS OF US, and IN TIME WITH YOU. She grew up under the California sun. She still prays every day for a cloudy sky. When she’s not writing books about people kissing, she and her partner can be found encouraging their four overly opinionated children to get into trouble. Kristin is a part-time hair model and a full time ‘opinion giver’ disguised as a freelance creative editor. If you get too close to her she will show you photos of her dog, despite you asking her not to. Please do not talk to her about your fandom, she will try to join” (Bio from author’s website).

“Time, my love, takes what it wants. Even when we try to stop it.”

After her boyfriend Carter dies rescuing her from drowning, Nieve Monroe is consumed by guilt. Max, Carter’s best friend—who witnessed the accident and has never trusted Nieve—blames her too. Overwhelmed by her loss and unable to face the tension that results at home, Nieve escapes to her grandmother’s house: a place she’s long associated with strange stories and unexplained events. The next morning, she wakes up to discover she’s back at the start of her freshman year of college, one year before the accident. Determined to change what happened, Nieve decides to keep Carter away from the river where he died. But as she carefully reshapes her previous choices, her relationships begin to shift—especially her one with Max. As the past unfolds differently, Nieve needs to grapple with the consequences of altering fate and figure out what, and who, is important to her.

In Time With You hooked me quickly with its emotional premise and high-stakes setup, and I was immediately drawn into Nieve’s desperation to rewrite the past. The tension is where this book truly shines. Nieve’s battle with her lingering grief and guilt regarding Max, combined with her new feelings and fear of disrupting the timeline in ways that will affect other parts of her life, including her already fragile relationship with her mother, were very intriguing to me. That added depth makes every interaction feel more layered, and it’s easy to understand why she and Max gravitate toward each other despite everything. I found myself rooting for them even when it complicated things. At the same time, I struggled with the mechanics of the timeline. I kept trying to distinguish between intentional changes and possible inconsistencies on the author’s part, and unlike most magical realism stories, there wasn’t much structure to ground these shifts. The logistics demand a lot of trust from the reader, and for much of the book I felt unsteady waiting for a bigger explanation that never quite arrived. Normally that lack of clarity would really bother me to the point of not finishing the book, but the stakes and momentum carried me through to the end. While the concept and writing felt promising, I didn’t connect as deeply with all of the characters as I hoped, and the resolution lacked the emotional punch I was expecting. Still, In Time With You is a nice addition to the ever-growing list of second-chance romances.

In Time With You releases on March 3rd, 2026.
