“My mom was right to warn me against love. All love really does is give someone the power to hurt you.”

Chanel Cao, a high school influencer living in the shadow of her famous parents, never expected her perfect life to start unraveling when she decided to follow her quiet, mysterious classmate Ares Yin to a secluded lake. There, she discovers that when the moon is at its highest, the water shimmers and reveals visions of the future. The vision leaves her shocked: Ares standing in front of her burning home, lighter in hand. Even more shocking, he can see the vision too. Determined to prevent this future, Chanel throws herself into Ares’s world—but he has secrets of his own. The lake’s vision is guiding him toward his missing brother, and following that path could put them both in danger. As their visions continue to intertwine, Chanel and Ares are forced to navigate between rivalry and teamwork, learning to trust each other or risk becoming the very future they fear.

This is such a beautiful sequel to If You Could See The Sun, and I love that it focuses on Chanel because she was my favorite side character from that novel. I enjoyed how different Chanel is from Ares, as she’s a popular influencer while he’s more quiet and guarded, and that contrast made their dynamic really fun to read from the moment they met. I’m also glad that the romance wasn’t rushed. It developed naturally instead of jumping straight from enemies to lovers, which made it feel way more believable. I loved how Ares’s perspective of Chanel changed over time—he starts off seeing her as a stereotypical nepo baby but eventually understands her chaotic life. One of the most interesting aspects of the book was Chanel’s perspective on love. She kind of sees it as a system, like there’s a specific way love is supposed to work, which clearly comes from watching her parents’ relationship. Seeing how her mom changed after separating from her dad while still maintaining a perfect public image really shaped how Chanel approaches relationships. Because of that, she thinks she can control everything, like when she tries to manipulate Ares into being her prom date to prevent her vision. But when Chanel’s plans don’t go as expected, it completely throws her off and makes her question everything she thought she understood about love. There were also some surprisingly emotional moments that showed that having famous parents isn’t as perfect as it seems, especially with the pressure to always be faultless. I can’t wait to see how Liang continues this series!

I Could Give You the Moon releases on April 14th, 2026.
