About the Illustrator: “I’m Yogita Chawdhary, a full-time children’s book illustrator specializing in picture books and middle-grade illustrations, based in Bangalore, India. For over five years, I’ve illustrated more than 22 children’s products, including books, jigsaw puzzles, and affirmation cards, creating fun and engaging visuals for young readers. Even though I started with a B-Tech in IT and a Masters in HR, my heart has always been in illustration. What began as a childhood hobby has turned into a career I absolutely love! Through my kidlit art, I get to bring stories to life and add a little extra magic to them. When I’m not drawing, you’ll probably find me hiking, listening to music, watching animated movies, or playing board and video games” (Bio from illustrator’s website).

Mrs. B wants nothing more than to make her students happy, and to foster a safe environment for them to succeed when entering a new school year. But once in a while, big emotions arise, and she must figure out a way to help her students when times get tough. Especially for Ezekiel, these emotions can bubble up and spew out in a big way. Her solution: Rainbow Breathing. She teaches her students a method of breathing control that helps them calm down and find peace again. Together, they all practice Rainbow Breathing and deal with their emotions in a healthy fashion and make friends along the way.
Ezekiel’s Volcano demonstrates a wonderfully unique way for children to cope with their big emotions. The story was simple, but the message was loud and clear: being a child can be hard, especially when you’re experiencing all-new feelings and emotions. But this book gives both children and parents insight into how to deal with them. The rainbow breathing exercise is such a fun way for children to practice both taking deep breaths and recognizing when their emotions can be overwhelming. Ezekiel’s volcanic outburst was a perfect example of how sometimes we let things build up to the point of spewing out, but with Mrs. B’s encouragement and support, she gives him the opportunity to reassess his emotions, take deep breaths, and release any negative feelings. I think this part was done really well. Also, I absolutely adored the illustrations! They were bright, clean, and clear. Very detailed and made great use of rainbow colors to enhance the overall message and provided great visuals for children to engage with. The images feature diverse characters, which is very important when exposing children to literature, as it allows them to connect with people different from themselves. This picture book would be great for parents to read with their children, as it includes step-by-step instructions on how to “Rainbow Breathe” as well, and encourages parents to talk with their children about their feelings.
Ezekiel’s Volcano releases in 2026.
